Announcing The Wilde Hunt Ball - Wilde Hunt Corsetry

Announcing The Wilde Hunt Ball

I have some very exciting news to pass along! In order to give everyone the maximum possible notice (and the maximum possible sewing time!), we’d like to announce that we are planning The Wilde Hunt Ball, a Victorian Ball organized by the Ohio Historic Costumers ! The target time period for The Wilde Hunt Ball is the 1890’s (though all Victorian era dress will certainly be very welcome and copiously admired)! In order to add a little extra romance and mystery to our event we are also adding the theme of the Die Wilde Jagd ( or The Wild Hunt) to our aesthetic for this event. This is an ancient story of a spectral hunting party that is steeped deeply in faerie mythology. There will be a dress code which will be fully detailed soon, but essentially, we are aiming for an elegant, historic, formal dress event rather than a Halloween, plastic costume type party. There won’t be historical correctness police roaming the party or anything, but we just request that our guests make an effort to meet the theme in some capacity in order to not break the mood of the evening. So for the purpose of our event – think romantic, historic, Victorian gowns and formal menswear meets a subtle hint of nature, the fae, perhaps even Pre-Raphaelite or Art Nouveau inspiration. Please visit our Pinterest board to fully understand the aesthetic we are aiming for :

If you have not sewn any clothing of this era before, don’t despair! I know that Julie with Ohio Historic Costumers intends to create a schedule of classes which will teach you everything you need to know to be well dressed at The Wilde Hunt Ball! I also plan to create a dress diary here on my blog so you can follow along with the creation of my 1890’s ballgown.
