Dentelle Dorée – A Leather Wedding Anniversary

Recently my friend and neighbor, Amanda, told me that she was getting ready to celebrate her “leather anniversary”. I had heard of  tradition of giving one’s spouse gifts made of specific materials depending on how many years the couple has been together, but I didn’t realize there was one wedding anniversary specifically for leather. Depending on which chart you follow, your leather wedding anniversary can either be the 3rd anniversary ( traditional UK or US) or if you follow the modern list created created librarians at the Chicago Public Library, it would be your 9th anniversary. Here is the chart for each year.

Well Amanda had the clever idea of making her gift to her husband this year a leather corset and some beautiful art photography portraits of her wearing the corset! She gave me a lot of artistic freedom in the design of the corset, and since I had been obsessing over some really fine quality gilded French lace – the Dentelle Dorée corset was born! It was quite a meticulous process to make the lace conform to the bust contour and it involved a great deal of hand stitching and trimming. After the lace was in place, I added some really unique shimmery deep rose Swarovski crystals and some genuine gold flat sequins. I’m really pleased with the results and was happy to be asked to help with this important milestone and surprise!
