Selene Underworld Corset - Wilde Hunt Corsetry

New Work Inspired by the Selene Underworld Corset

I just completed this corset for a client. In the initial consultation the client mentioned that she wanted a corset that featured some artwork that was slightly tribal and she mentioned she liked to attend horror/sci-fi conventions.

So the first thing that came to my mind was the corset Kate Beckinsale  wore as the character Selene in the Underworld series of movies. I thought this would be a great place to start, but there were always a few things that bothered me about that Underworld corset…

Selene’s tribal design on the front just looked so sketchy and tentative to me and of course the waist line wasn’t very pronounced. I decided to start with the tribal design and clean it up a bit to make it sharper and I choose to create the whole corset in genuine black patent leather and a really lovely high shine metallic silver leather. I’m a big fan of high contrast and I think these choices really increased the impact of the piece. Since, unlike Kate Beckinsale, my client didn’t need to worry about performing stunts when fighting vampires and werewolves, I knew I could easily create a dramatic waistline. So bit by bit, through a time intensive multiple mockup process, we managed reduce the client’s waist size by a remarkable 14 inches. My client and I were equally surprised when I measured the final work and got this number because in corsetry, 6 inches is considered quite a respectable waist reduction. What accounts for this dramatic waist reduction? Well, as much as I would like to claim full responsibility and miracle worker status, most of this is simply due to biology. Some people are just more mutable or flexible in this respect. Interesting, isn’t it?!

So there you have it – my version of the Selene Underworld Corset. What do you think? Is it a corset fit for vampire royalty?
