Venetian Corset

This work is one of three leather corsets that I created for an art grant which I was recently awarded. My inspiration was the Art Nouveau movement and in particular the work of Alphonse Mucha. The Venetian Corset is one of the most challenging corsets that I have ever created. I constructed it from leather panels which I hand-cut with an original Art Nouveau style filigree design, painstakingly hand-tooled them to emboss the rose and vine motif, layered them with a sheer fabric, and then custom finished the leather with genuine 23kt Italian gold. I think this method creates a look that is similar to filigree or cutwork in jewelry.

It felt rather decadent to cover an entire corset in real gold – and I’d love to do it again. If you would like to have a similar corset created, email me to discuss your own 23kt gold corset commission. We could create something more subtle like the Parisian Corset, featuring perhaps just one panel of gold, or we can go Venetian and create another fully golden corset. If you choose to include a sheer panel, it can be customized to match any skin tone. I think my 23kt gold corsets have amazing potential for Bridal, evening wear, or music/performance costume.
